Winter Traverse – Sylarna, Jämtland

Alexander ryden syltraversen vinter, climbing, winter

Winter Traverse of Sylarna

Sylarna is a mountain massif on the Swedish–Norwegian border in Jämtland, west of Åre. The Lillsylen–Storsylen ridge is one of Sweden’s classic alpine traverses, and Alexander Rydén completed it in winter on skis.

The approach was done on cross-country skis, carrying winter camping equipment and spending the night in tents before starting the traverse the following day.

Parts of the ridge require the skis to be carried, combining ski touring with exposed climbing. Snow, wind and visibility strongly affect the conditions, making it a complete alpine journey rather than a single ski descent.
